Neighborhood Park Usage | Interviews

The nearest park to the site is Huidekoper Park. It is 4/10 mi away yet too far for comfort in the opinions of parents with small children.

I stood outside the Liberty House on a Friday afternoon just as school was letting out. As parents walked their children home from the bus stop, I asked them questions about park usage in their neighborhood. They said in summary:
1. Their families do not use Huidekoper because it is simply unsafe.
2. Parents cannot see their children in case of an accident because of a large bend in the road and a sizeable tree stand.
3. Parents do not like their children crossing a busy road nor walking alongside it in order to reach Huidekoper.
4. The largest complaint from parents by far was the fear that because Huidekoper Park is hidden, there is a larger chance their child could be abducted or get into trouble.
